But being eco-friendly goes deeper than not using plastic straws. We can also be harming the environment, by buying things. Everything needs energy to be made, and if we buy things that we do not need it is harming the environment. Because as shelbizleee put it: We are voting with our dollar, which mean, when we buy something we are indicating that we want more of this product. So it is important (but also a hard task) to support sustainable brands, that have changed their manufacturing processes to be more environmentally friendly, whenever we can. But you do need to be careful with which brands you trust, because there is such a thing as greenwashing, which is when a brand makes you think that it is sustainable (maybe by having a name that sounds like it is good for the planet or saying that it has made changes), but it has no certifications of being eco-friendly and it just wants to seem sustainable so that more people will buy it. more people will buy this, because it makes them feel like they are doing something good for the environment and takes away the guilt that they feel when they buy something tha is not good for the environmenr e the research comes in.
